Joining the 350th Foundation Anniversary of Faculty of Law, we have published its memorandum of association (first and last pages), which was created on 2 of January, 1667, and currently held in the University Archives of the Eötvös Loránd University.
The two signers are Francis Lénárt Szegedi, Bishop of Vac, provost of Pozsony, chancellor of the Hungarian royal court and George Pongrácz, Bishop of Szendrő, lector of cathedral of Esztergom, were the executors of the will of George Lippay, archbishop of Esztergom. The legal education was started by the donations of Imre Lósy and George Lippay who were archbishops of Esztergom. In order to create the new faculty the executors of the archbishop’s will made an agreement with the Chapter of Esztergom. The chapter supervised the 30000 Ft of stock which was added to the university's fund. Four departments of law founded: one for the education of canon law, one for the Roman law and two for domestic law. The agreement was signed – apart from the ones already mentioned – by Michael Sicuten, Jesuit Provincial Superior of the Austrian province, who had authority over the Hungarian territory as well, and the Jesuit priest László Vid, who was the rector of the College of Trnava.
