Hungarian Heritage Award Committee of the Hungarian Heritage and Europe Society (Magyar Örökség és Európa Egyesület) granted Hungarian Heritage Award (Magyar Örökség Díj) to the worthy, more than 450 years old ELTE University Library to become part of the "Invisible Intellectual Museum of Hungary" in the service of Hungarian science and culture.
The solemn ceremony took place on June 23, 2018 at Ceremonial Hall of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The award was received from Dr. Istvan Klinghammer, the Head of the Hungarian Heritage Award Committee by Katalin Kálóczi, Director-General of the University Library.
Dr. László Szögi, historian, former Director-General of the University Library, presented his shortened appreciation for the rich history of the library. He also mentioned a unique event in European cultural history, the strange return of codices of Hungarian national heritage to the collection of the University Library. The library's 185 codices, 1200 incunabulum, 11,000 antique, 16,500 baroque and 75,000 XVIII. century volume are part of the cultural heritage of the Hungarian nation, and protection and preservation of that value is our common duty.
